For
Windsurfing in Colorado can be as good as it gets. We may not use 4.0 meter sails very often but that doesn't stop us. With the equipment today it makes windsurfing in Colorado a whole new ballgame.
NEWS LARSON’S
SWAP! Larson’s Ski and Sport
will be having a windsurf and kiteboard swap
July 22nd-23rd. If you have anything to sell bring
it down between 10am and 7pm the 19th, 20th or 21st
at Larson’s and set a price. You can do it two ways. Set one
price through the weekend and if it sells and you want a check you get
70% of the selling price or the other option is called Discounted, where
you set a price and if by 1pm Saturday it hasn’t sold it drops in
price 15% and if it hasn’t sold by Sunday morning it drops another 15%
totaling 30%. If it sells you would get 75% in a check. Either option if
you use it as store credit it remains 100%. There will be some great
deals so come down and check it out! There will be plenty of help for
questions you may have. Denver
wind lines Aurora Reservoir: (303) 766-0020 Chatfield Reservoir: (303) 933-3332 A great site for water temp and level at Lake McConaughy Windsurfing in Colorado Q&A: Q: Where can you windsurf in the Denver Metro area? A: In almost any reservoir and that includes Aurora, Chatfield, Cherry Creek, Stanley, Soda Lakes, Boyd, Boulder, Union, Jackson and many others. Q: How can I learn to windsurf? A: There are a couple ways, first and easiest is to call Larson's ski and sport at 303-423-0654 and set up a lesson. For a two hour beginner lesson the cost is $70. Equipment is included. Soda lakes does rent windsurf boards for about 15 dollars an hour and Larson's will rent/demo some equipment for about $35 per day. Taking a lesson is the fastest way to speed up the learning curve. Renting a board at Soda and just going out can work too if your willing to have to swim or walk the board back. Q: Is it an expensive sport? A: It can be as with many other sports but it can be inexpensive too. You can get a great new set-up (everything you need to sail) for about $1,100. Or, you can get a decent set-up from one of Larson's three windsurf swaps for about half that. If bulky isn't a problem older equipment can be really cheap like in the range of $100-$500 and many times that's a whole set-up. With today's equipment transporting is so much easier with two piece masts and shorter and really light boards so all you need is a roof rack with cross bars. Q: Is it hard to learn? A: I wouldn't say hard, it just takes practice. Windsurfing, unlike some sports is not necessarily a sport for only the strong. It is more a balance/finesse sport. You'll see strong men in their 20's windsurfing next to women in their 60's+. You'll see people in shape and out of shape. Windsurfing is for anyone. Q: How old do you have to be? A: I have seen kids as young as 7 years old. Realistically though old enough to be able to uphaul (getting the sail out of the water while standing on the board) the smallest sail which is pretty small. Q: How old do you have to be to take lessons? A: Since our smallest sail is about a 4.0 I would say 9 years old. Q: Are there enough winds here? A: Definitely! |
